F A Q_________________________________________________
Q. Where do I get it? A. You can get Direct Connect at Neo-Modus.
Q. How do I browse people on this thing? A. You browse them by double clicking there name.
Q. How do I download files? A. You download by double clicking the file.
Q. WTF! I can't browse anyone? What do I
do? A. Well first of all are you on Active or Passive mode (check in Settings)? If your on Active then you need to make sure to set up your Router so you can access peoples list. To do this you will need to enter your Router configuration menu address (i.e. 192.168.2.1 or whatever it is for your router). Next you will need to go to the section where it allows you to open ports (some routers call it Virtual server some NAT configurations, just look for it). Direct Connect uses port 412 for TCP and UDP data. This can be changed in settings to any number you want. To make Direct Connect work properly with your router, you must enter your routers WAN IP address in Preference>Connection Preference>Advance button>'Internet IP address' box (In DC 1.9 its in Settings>Connection). To get your WAN ip address click here. Also to get your Local Area Network IP address (which some routers require you type in along with the port) go to Start Menu then Run then type ‘cmd’ then type 'ipconfig' in the command prompt window that opens, the results will look like this…
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific
DNS Suffix . : Default Gateway . . . . . . . . .
If everything above is done correctly you will now be using Direct Connect in Active Mode. Also make sure you turn off any firewall you may be running, some routers have firewalls on automatically so make sure you turn them off. Windows XP also has its own personal firewall make sure you turn that off too, go to Network Connections right click the Connection and go to properties then the advance tab and make sure its unchecked. If your just using Cable/DSL without a router you only need to put your IP address in Preference>Connection Preference>Advance button>'Internet IP address' box (In DC 1.9 its in Settings>Connections). If all this is overwhelming then you can use the Passive mode, you only need to check it in Preference>Connection Preference (In DC 1.9 its in Settings>Connection) to set it. Nothing else you need to do but some features will not work and you cannot browse other people who are in the same mode.

Q. When I try to browse this guys list it says ‘No free slots’
? A. That means his slots are all taken so try again later. You will be
queued so if he has a slot open the list/file will
download.
Q. Man I’m downloading off this guy but he’s slow! How can I get
faster speeds? A. It depends on their upload speed, and what type of connection you
have. If they have a
Q. Damn this guy left while I was downloading something off of him.
How can I finish it? A. You can try to find someone else who has the same filename by going to the Waiting tab (In DC 1.9 its called Queue) and right click on the filename and click on ‘Find more copies’ (In DC 1.9 its called 'attempt to locate alternate source'). This will bring up a search window, if there is someone who has the same filename double click it and the file will resume downloading (In DC 1.9 a window will pop up, click on resume).

Q. For some reason I can't connect to the hub. I keep getting this message: "<Client> Connecting To goforbroke.no-ip.com:411 <Client> Disconnected From Hub" A. It’s probably because the hub is down for whatever reason. Just check our Shoryuken.com thread and Dr. Funkenstein2k (the hub owner) will post when its up again. Also it might be your connection, did you follow the directions on question 4?
Q. How do I register my name? A. You can register your name by Private Messaging (right click on the name) Raging Demon Bot and entering the following: +reg then followed by your password. Example: +reg hadouken. Registering your name will not allow others to use your name.
Q. I got booted for not sharing enough MB! How do I fix this? A. Share limit is 700 MB minimum at the hub so make sure you share
this or more and make sure you have 3 slots open (in
Preference>Network,
In DC 1.9 its in
Settings>File
Transfers).
Q. Anybody got *insert video name here* or where can I get *insert video here*? A. Use the search feature before asking about vids in chat and don't bother ops either!
Q. WTF! I got kicked/disconnected for double
connecting how can I fix this? A. To fix this violation of the hub rules you must disconnect one of
your direct connect clients, if your system has crashed and you cannot see
the first client in the toolbar you must press ctrl+alt+del and end the first client, if this problem
pursues you may need to restart your
system.
Q. Is A. DC++ is now allowed in the GFB
Hub.
Q. So what new vids does the hub got lately? A. Our Shoryuken.com thread will be updated with all the current vids we got or release. Also visit our News Page to see the latest vids out.
Q. I can’t view this video I downloaded! It says it needs the right codec? A. Click on the Hub window we have a list of links for codecs.
Q. I still can’t view this video! A. Try using a older player like Windows Media
Player 6.4. To do this go to Run and type
'mplayer2'.
Q. What can I about these damn pop ups in DC? A. Use a pop up blocker duh! Google search. Try Panicware.
Q. DC is slow as *insert
expletive*! A. Direct Connect uses a normal amount of RAM, but its rich GUI uses
many system resources – not necessarily RAM. Running Windows NT or 2000
will alleviate this problem, but they require more RAM themselves. Bottom
line - If your running Direct Connect on Windows 2000/XP you should have
128mb or more RAM, for Windows NT4 or ME, 64mb will suffice, and users of
windows 98 should be able to get by with 32mb. If you don’t have this much
memory, you should really consider an upgrade.
Crucial.com will get you the best prices, and they have tools to
make sure you buy the right memory. Other great sites are Pricewatch.com.
